“Drawing is the starting point in art. There is always a preparatory drawing when it comes to the artistic practice. We can therefor say that drawing is a beginning without ever being an end. And at the beginning is exactly where Nidhal Chamekh seems to be going with his drawings. What happens in the human spirit for it to go and venture alongside death, to make it a desired fate? Like a journey in which we would fantasize the arrival. “We are beings for the end” (Martin Heidegger) abandoned to death. Yet the destiny of a man’s life is an attempt to forget this date. Against all reason the martyrdom described in Nidhal’s drawing plan this meeting, he provokes it. This is how these drawings go back to the beginning, the dream of a life turned into the dream of death, in order to dissect and describe it without ever understanding or justifying it.”
